Young Mahito longs for his mother and ends up searching for her in a borderland shared by the living and the dead. In this mysterious world, death comes to an end, and new life can begin. THE BOY AND THE HERON is Hayao Miyazaki’s semi-autobiographical fantasy about life and death, a tale of creation, and the importance of friendship.
THE BOY AND THE HERON is the first feature film in ten years from Oscar-winning director Hayao Miyazaki. It was produced by Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki. The hand-drawn animation is accompanied by music from Miyazaki’s longtime collaborator Joe Hisaishi, with the theme song performed by J-Pop superstar Kenshi Yonezu.
